Exploring Pinay Stereotypes

Vianca B. (Series) is an installation comprised of four watercolour paintings. The series depicts the artist looking towards the two stereotypes or identities that Pinay women are limited to, the ‘prostitute’ and the ‘nurse’. The two concepts are a derivative of the overarching stereotypes of the Dragon Lady and the Lotus Blossom. The ‘prostitute’ is a seductress who sells her body for personal gain. In contrast, the ‘nurse’ is caring, subservient and easy to manipulate of because of her kindness.
